Book Overview

Doing the right thing is never easy. But are you willing to lose everything to keep your integrity?

Gary has been on the police force for a few years. He feels he’s doing a great job of serving and protecting his community. Soon he realizes that he’s part of a police force where there are some police officers who dishonor the oath they all took to protect and serve their city and he knows what is going on around him is all wrong.

He has a decision to make, whether to report it and risk his career and his badge or be part of the cover-up. He chronicles all of these events where he talks about different cases and everything that occurred during that time period.

While this book chronicles the life of a police officer, it’s told from a perspective that is normally not done. This book addresses racial issues and whether good cops know who the bad ones are and what can be done about it.

What will Gary decide to do? Will he blindly obey code blue or protect the people?

Author Spotlight-My Start With Writing and Becoming An Author

Poetry somehow came to me at a very young age. When I started writing, I was 13 years old and always did it on and off. I would write about my life mostly and never took it seriously. It wasn’t until I was in my early 30s and a trip to Los Angeles to get away from my hectic life where I started thinking of what I wanted to do with my life. That’s when the idea of writing books came to me.

The thought process of writing sounded great to me but I wanted to be different and stand out. I knew I wanted to tackle societal issues in the world but write my books in a prose format. Once I decided that, it was time to brainstorm what my first book would be.

The Struggles and Growth of a Man was my first book I wrote and published and when I published it, it was the most fulfilling feeling and experience of my life. Granted I made plenty of mistakes (book cover, paperback size, formatting), I knew that I had my passion and from there came more book ideas.

Writing Code Blue: An Oath to the Badge and Gun came from seeing all that’s going on in today’s society with racism and police brutality in America. I wanted to write it from a different perspective and I felt that writing it from a police officer’s point of view would bring the story out.

While the story is fictional, I wanted to focus on where exactly are the orders for these police officers coming from. It starts at the top and then it trickles down to the police departments which is why I write the book in a prose format which is different from the traditional book a reader would read.

All of my books consist of brainstorming sessions where I formulate my ideas, characters, chapters and whether I’m writing a series or if the book will be a standalone. Code Blue in my mind would definitely be a series of five books. I knew that I needed to bring Gary (the main character) out and give people a sense of what a good cop could be thinking and going through in their daily lives.

When I wrote this series, I listened to a lot of music that related to social issues in today’s world. I had to get myself into a zone to write these books and bring out the important things going on in cities around America. It wasn’t easy and it was a challenging series to write.

What I want people to take from this series is what are we doing about the relationships citizens have with police officers, how are we going about solving the racial tension that goes on in today’s society and how can we as citizens of this country feel safe in knowing the police are here for us and not for their own purposes of power and control.

About the Author

Jamell is a poet, prose author, blogger and podcaster who has taken on a journey of writing in the prime of his life. He has been writing poetry since the age of 13 but never thought he could utilize his talent to tell stories and write books. He is not the traditional author as he writes his books in poetry format with a focus on storylines and societal issues.

After publishing a plethora of books, his continued goals and plans are to continue writing books on taboo subjects that aren’t discussed enough in today’s world and bringing those main subjects to the forefront. Jamell’s blogs tackle societal issues, how he writes his books, his journey as an author and some motivational blogs that will get you to focus on your goals. His goal and moniker is, “to change the world, one book at a time.”

All of Jamell’s books are written in prose format, it’s different than the traditional book that you would read. My books tackle issues that are currently going on in America and in the world.

In his spare time, Jamell is always listening to music, traveling when he can, running, playing basketball and working on various projects such as books, audio books, and writing shorter poems. Jamell loves to read books that have good story lines and are intriguing to the mind.
