EDITOR SPOTLIGHT!⠀⠀ For the month of November, we're highlighting other amazing members of the publishing and writing community. Wednesdays are devoted to the amazing editors that make our world turn.⠀⠀ 📚📚📚⠀⠀ Gingerman Editorial:⠀ Since high school, I’ve wanted to be a writer. I’d been good at telling stories ever since I was young and was starting to think I could try it professionally. However, I let practical concerns get the better of me for a while. As I neared graduation, I knew I was also going to need to make enough money to support myself and the family I was hoping to start with my girlfriend at the time. So instead of delving into writing, I joined the Navy as an electrician in the nuclear program. The way I figured it, I could try writing a book while I was in the Navy and if that didn’t work out, I could go to work at a power plant to pay the bills.⠀ I did finish the book, but I couldn’t get it accepted anywhere. Fortunately, the backup plan worked pretty well. The only difference is that I married a different girl. We’ve gone on to have six kids together and start a small farm. ⠀ For a long time, the creative urge was superseded entirely but thanks to the internet I was able to meet some great people who asked me to review books for them. I didn’t just review them though, I started making comments and corrections, eventually even rewriting large portions of some work. Finally, I decided to see if people would actually pay me to edit and write. WRITING TIPS FOR NANOWRIMO!⠀ 📚📚📚⠀ 7. Don't wait for an idea to hit you — just get something onto the page.⠀ The biggest thing that NaNoWriMo has taught me is that it's easier to get something down on the page, even if it's awful, than to wait for the perfect words to come. Don't think, just go, and see what you discover along the way.⠀ 8. Use prompts and word sprints.⠀ There are plenty of tools to help you. Use prompts to help you generate ideas. Or, set a timer and see how many words you can write in a certain amount of time. The Twitter account @NaNoWordSprints is also a great help!⠀ 9. Reward yourself when you reach a benchmark.⠀ Whether it's with something as simple as a cupcake or it's with some official NaNoWriMo swag, don't forget to celebrate when you hit a word goal. MONDAY TEA TIME!⠀ It's finally that time of year where it cools down, pumpkin spice abounds and Christmas decorations start to take over the world.⠀ To help keep you in the season, we thought we'd share some of our favorite tea recipes that are perfect for this time of year. ⠀ 📚📚📚⠀⠀ Spiced Apple Tea⠀ You already love apple cider, now it's time for spiced apple tea to have its shining moment! We recommend that you make a double, or triple, batch of this yummy drink because everyone will want seconds. And hey, we won't tell if you want to get creative and spike it with some whiskey later in the day!⠀ ⠀ Ingredients⠀ 1 cup water⠀ 4 whole cloves⠀ 2 cinnamon sticks⠀ 2 tea bags⠀ 1 cup unsweetened apple juice⠀ 2 packets Pure Via sweetener⠀ 4 apple slices⠀ 1 anise star⠀ ⠀ Instructions⠀ Bring water, cloves, and cinnamon sticks to a boil in a small saucepan. Turn off heat, add tea bags, cover, and allow to steep for 3 minutes. Remove tea bags and stir in apple juice and sweetener. Turn the heat back on to low and simmer until heated through. ⠀ To serve, place two apple slices in the bottom of two mugs and anise star. Pour hot tea over apples, being careful to strain out cloves and cinnamon sticks. Book Review Tour Post! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Stolen Princess⠀ by Nikki Jefford ⠀ @nikkijefford⠀⠀ 📚📚📚⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Before we delve into it, here's a friendly reminder that author's NEED you to review and rate their books. Help them out!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 📚📚📚⠀⠀⠀ I was entranced, and taken hostage into the worlds that Nikki Jefford weaved. Her heroine is strong, smart, brave and feisty. Plus a badass!⠀ The prequel novella 'Enemies and Lovers' is included now in this book and I have to say that was a brilliant idea to add that in! It helps fully build the story and without it I think I would have been fully confused.⠀ ⠀ What a ride this book is.. You don't know who to trust, or what will happen next. It is a great read that takes you on an epic journey. It's a roller-coaster ride from the first page.⠀ Aerith is an elf and enters a competition to be the next Fae queen. Her skills with a bow and arrow are amazing and really all the prince wanted was someone to protect him from his own treacherous family. When things don’t go so well, she lands back in her realm and in her father's home. A father who took the stipend that was given to him for marrying off Aerith and spent it on useless things. ⠀ ⠀ Now he’s trotting her around like prized cattle at auction to maintain his lifestyle. There is so much going on in Aeriths world she can’t keep up and the past is bound to catch you especially when it’s an all powerful fae. ⠀ There are epic fights, betrayal, kingdoms, elves and fae, feisty Spitfire women, intrigue, and most of all suspense. This literally has everything that you're looking at for: fantasy, adventure, romance, and suspense. Sundays are for Pie!⠀ 🥧🥧🥧⠀ Praline Pumpkin Pecan Pie⠀ 1 cup crushed gingersnap cookies (about 20 cookies)⠀ 3/4 cup finely chopped pecans⠀ 1/3 cup packed light brown sugar⠀ 1/8 teaspoon salt⠀ 3 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted⠀ FILLING:⠀ 2 large eggs, lightly beaten⠀ 1 can (15 ounces) pumpkin⠀ 1 can (14 ounces) sweetened condensed milk⠀ 1-1/2 teaspoons ground cinnamon⠀ 1/2 teaspoon ground ginger⠀ 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg⠀ 1/2 teaspoon salt⠀ TOPPING:⠀ 1 cup packed light brown sugar⠀ 1/4 cup heavy whipping cream⠀ 2 tablespoons light corn syrup⠀ 2 tablespoons unsalted butter⠀ 1 tablespoon white vinegar⠀ 1 cup coarsely chopped pecans⠀ 1 tablespoon vanilla extract⠀ 🥧🥧🥧⠀ Directions⠀ Preheat oven to 325°. In a large bowl, mix crushed cookies, pecans, brown sugar and salt; stir in butter. Press onto bottom and up sides of a greased 9-in. deep-dish pie plate. Bake until lightly browned, 5-7 minutes. Cool on a wire rack.⠀ For filling, in a large bowl, beat eggs, pumpkin, milk, spices and salt. Pour into crust. Bake on a middle oven rack until center is set, 50-60 minutes. Cool on a wire rack 1 hour.⠀ For topping, in a large heavy saucepan, combine brown sugar, cream, corn syrup, butter and vinegar. Bring to a boil over medium heat. Cook and stir until a candy thermometer reads 240° (firm-ball stage), stirring occasionally. Remove from heat; stir in pecans and vanilla. Pour over pie immediately.
